Dual Monitors

One of my long time dreams for my law office running Linux, was to use dual monitors. So, I spent much of this weekend trying to make two monitors work with Linux. As it turns out, Linux has a harder time easily supporting dual monitors than wifi.

Today, my desktop is only running one monitor. That's right, I gave up.... for now. Here's what I learned:

  1. Use a newer NVIDIA card. NVIDIA supports Linux, so it usually works well with Linux, BUT older NVIDIA cards don't seem to be supported as well as the newer ones.
  2. Use common monitors. The best way to determine this is check and see if your monitor is in the display "monitor list" for the distribution you plan on using.
  3. It appears that Fedora gives the best support to dual monitors. However, I couldn't get it to run the two monitors the way I needed them to run, but it seemed to want to support them.
So, I will continue to try. I know it can be done, because there are too many uber geeks who have it running on You Tube. Suggestions? Feel free to post them.
