Ubuntu 9.10
Ubuntu 9.10 is out. I'm running it on three machines. On the two that had 9.04 previously running on them, the upgrade was essentially the push of a button. That was awesome. On the machine that had been running 8.04, I went with a CD burned copy. It did fine as well.
I've seen some negative comments from the Linux community about 9.10, but for me, it's works and looks great. It seems funny to me how some times the Linux community wants to turn on Ubuntu for its success and market share. It just goes to show that you simply can't please everybody.
All in all, I think Ubuntu has made some good strides in the "user friendliness" of Linux. Unfortunately, many of the "uber geeks" in the Linux community still haven't figured out that that aspect of Linux has long been lacking.
So, if you are looking to deploy Linux in your law office or other small business, now is a good time to give it a try.

You are the Linux expert. What do you think of Android? I am running it on my new phone, the Droid, and love it.
Rick
P.S. What are the similarities, other than they are both free OSes?
Droid / Android are Linux based mobile operating systems. I love what they are doing with them. What the don't do, that I'm aware of, is sync with Evolution, the way the older Palm / Access based phones do, which is also a Linux based OS. So, if I had a free way to sync the phone with Evolution, I'd be looking to get one. Right now, I need the Linux desktop world to catch up the the Mobile phone world. Matter of fact, I'm surprised that Ubuntu has not tried to line up against Android.
Just found your blog - I'm an all linux - solo practitioner - currently part - time, heading back to full time in the spring.
Last time I was full time, I was dabbling in linux, so now as I look to re-tooling for full time, I'm looking for appropriate apps - your blog is a big help. TY Amy
I've a solo'er with one assistant, and have been using Ubuntu since March 09. I still use Timeslips on Windows for billing until I can get up to speed on GNUCash or a similar foss application. Is there a book or hard-copy user guide for setting up a business account with GNUCash?
